Him to us in the midst of His devotions. In the evening He is busy with the crowd; in the morning before the dawn He is alone with God. Christ’s piety issued in practical service. His practical service was nourished and sustained by His piety. In our Lord’s life, service and communion, work and prayer, each had its due and proper place. His was a perfectly “balanced” life. Here we have, to begin with, a picture of Christ in the midst of His activities. What a Sabbath this was in the history of Christ!
